What are Date Codes?

Mary Kay Date Codes Explained

According to Mary Kay® the "shelf life" of cosmetics is 3 years.

Some products manufactured by Mary Kay® have expiration dates because they are regulated.. All products that contain over-the-counter (OTC) drug products are regulated. These products include Mary Kay® Acne Treatment Gel, Mary Kay® Day Solution with SPF 25,
and Mary Kay® Sunless Tanning Lotion. Products that contain OTC drug products
have a shorter shelf life of 2 years.

The only Mary Kay products that are clearly labeled with expiration dates are the ones that contain OTC drug products and expire in 2 years. So, what about all the other products? They are listed with "Product Codes" or "Date Codes". Once you figure the system out, it is really not as confusing as it seems at first.

Every Mary Kay® product will have a Product Code. Finding it can be a challenge, but it is there somewhere. Sometimes it is on the box, sometimes it is on the crimp, the bottom of the container, the barrel of the pencil, or so on. It will consist of two capital letters followed immediately by two numbers, like this:

KC14

This example indicates that this product was manufactured on March 14, 2006. How did we come to this conclusion?
Here is the key:

Year is indicated by the first letter:

Month of production is indicated by the second letter:

A - 2000
B - 2001
C - 2002
D - 2003
F - 2004
H - 2005
K - 2006
M - 2007
R - 2008
T - 2009

A - January
B - February
C - March

And, finally, the last two numbers represent the day of the month the product was manufactured. K = 2006, C = March, and 14 means the 14th day of the month.

Well, after lots of hard work and many crashes the new store is up and running. It still has lots of work as you can see. There are missing categories and products but over the next couple of weeks(kids are back to school) I will focus on getting them up. New Things to Look For!

* I will be keeping you update on discontinued & new Mary Kay products, jessicasonline website and any other helpful information I can find. Please check back often because there will be discount coupons added from time to time. I will be adding an article explaining date codes soon.

* Color Conversion Charts - I have added color conversion charts for most of the new Mary Kay products.

* You can now purchase gift certificates. They can be sent by email or by mail. A great way to splurge on your loved ones.

* Fast and easy checkout - This I really like. Right now there are several pages to click to get thru checkout but next week the one page checkout will be added. Everything on one page.

* New Toll Free Number - 1-877-302-7329. This is a family run business so keep in mind you will get the answering machine at times. It may also be answered by my 6 year old. She is learning lots and give her a couple more years and she will probably be able to answer your questions or take your order.

* Phone ordering. I have always had some customers who called me to place their order however, now it is an option in the checkout and anyone not sure how to continue can use that for their orders. You can call or I will call to complete your order.

* Fly out categories - On the l/h side of the screen you can see all the categories, however if you use the ones on the top they fly out and you are able to get to your categories much faster.

The one thing that I wasn't able to incorporate into the new store was your user name and information. When coming to the new store you will have to set up a new username and password. I sincerely apologize for this.

I would highly recommend you buy the new black compact for the new shades. The colors do come in a small case but are not held in. If you didn't want to purchase the compact then you could use a small amount of super glue to hold the colours in place.

Mary Kay® New Compacts

Mary Kay® has done it again!!!

Yes, they have changed their product line. Eye colors, cheek colors, lipstick, eye liners, lip liners and even their compacts have been discontinued. You will still be able to find your favourites for a while yet but don't wait if you can't live without something. If it is a popular colour the price is sure to go up as the stock goes down.

Compacts:
Both compacts are designed with magnetics to keep the product in place. The compacts are designed with a patent-pending release tab located to the left of the large magnetic refill square. The release tab gently lifts refills out of the compact for easy replacement

Small Compact:
The new black compact is once again completely customizable to suit your needs. This time it replaces all three of the orginal compacts: color, custom & foundation. The compact is designed to add three eye colors, 1 blush, applicators, lipstick or lipgloss. You can use it for your foundation, pressed powders or bronzers.

Compact Pro:

The new compact pro is also available now which has many possibilities. You can customize it for many different looks.

One large well to hold two lipsticks or one lipstick and one lip gloss or one mascara
One well to hold lip liner and/or eyeliner
Two applicator wells
Three large square magnetic areas hold combinations or eyeshadow, bronzers, blush, and/or foundations.
Large mirror located on the top.

Will the magnets in the Mary Kay® Compact interfere with other objects?

According to Mary Kay® the magnets should not de-sensitize credit cards, hotel room keys, parking tickets or gift cards in a purse. For added precaution, it is advised to keep cards with magnetic strips at least ½ inch (2 cm) from the opening of the compact.

Mary Kay ® Mineral Powder - Confused Yet?

Ok, are you confused yet? Unless you are a natural at applying make up it will take some getting used to.

Highlighting Powder

The highlighting powder can be worn all over your face or just highlight different parts and works best for fair skin. It can also be used as eye colors or cheeks. Swirl them together to make a new look.

Use Pink Porcelain on the area you want to brighten. Only use the matte color not the shimmery for brightening. Mary Kay® suggests to use the matte or shimmer shade under the eyes to brighten them after a long day, at the sides of the nose, along smile lines and/or below the lower lip at the crease of the chin.

Bronzing Powder

The bronzing powder works for all skin tones. For ivory to beige skin tones it provides a sun-kissed effect. Mary Kay® recommends to apply the product where the sun naturally hits: forehead, cheeks, nose, shoulders and decollete.

For bronze skin tones it adds warmth to the complexion and can help even out skin tone.

The most important about these colors is to go light and build on your color. Start out with a little and experiment. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Mary Kay® Lipstick!!!

Don't get too worried too fast. Not all of your favourites are discontinued.

Mary Kay introduced 10 new shades in the winter in new black cases.
They are returning 22 of your favourites to the new sleek looking black cases. The new lipstick is fragrance - free with an added hint of vanilla flavour. I do like the new cases because they click together forming a secure cap. Since I tend to throw mine in my purse or jacket pocket it is a relief to know I won't feel a gucky mess when I put my hand in(ok, that has only happened once).

They are once again designed to fit the new black compact.

Mary Kay® Cosmetics Mineral Powder, Colors, & Foundation have you scratching your head?

Are you confused about the new mineral colors, foundations, powders etc.... In can be quite a taunting task to figure it all out. Over the next few days I will try my best to explain as much as I can. Please correct me if I stumble because it has been an education for myself.

I will start with the new mineral foundation. It was introduced in January. The rage right now are mineral products because of the increasing demand of natural items. Whether it is cleaning, baby, organic food, more and more consumers are looking for more mineral sourced items.

So what is it and how does it benefit you. This is one product I do like and recommend. It is lightweight and goes on easily with a brush. Mary Kay® quotes: "A skin perfecter that makes lines, wrinkles and other imperfections seem to disappear." It is also great because it won't fade away thru out the day. You will be happy to know that the bristles on the brush are all natural designed to work with the mineral foundation.

Why purchase this if you already have loose powder? Loose powder works great for shine or to control excess oil. If you have combination or oily skin you may still want to use your loose powders. You can use the mineral foundation in place off or with your current foundation. Not sure which shade is for you. Check out the chart below:

Ok, I now decided to purchase Mary Kay® Mineral Foundation. I am in front of my mirror. Now what!!!
Well, that is the same question I had. I am not a natural at applying make up(or doing my hair for that matter).
According to the instructions from Mary Kay® here are the steps:
1. Cleanse & Moisturize your face, allowing moisturizer and any other products to dry.
2. With the jar lid on, gently shade the mineral powder foundation jar to dispense the foundation into the sifter.
3. Remover the lid and dip the mineral foundation brush into the powder, tapping against the rim of the jar to remover any excess. It is not necessary to use all the powder that is in the sifter - a little goes a long way.
4. Swirl the Mineral Foundation brush inside the lid so that the powder is worked into the bristles.
5. To apply, start in the center of the face and work out to either side toward the hairline and along the jawline, blending well. For a light, natural coverage, a single, thin layer should be enough. For increased coverage, repeat the application process, applying the mineral powder foundation in thin layers until the desired coverage level is achieved.

Tip: From my experience the powder can be messy to put on. The first few times I did get alot of it on my shirt. It doesn't stain or leave any marks but I thought I would warn you.
